| Garmin launch the nuvifone G60 with ATT in the US - Cool Reception |
Posté le 05 octobre 2009 à 15:19:00 par gpspassion. EN - Smartphone GPS Source : Gpspassion
Updated October 5th, 2009 Nearly two years after it was first announced the Garmin nuvifone G60 is finally available for purchase in the US with AT&T and will likely be announced in Europe on Thursday. The G60 looked like a "killer device" in January 2008 but with the iPhone having gained a GPS module and GPS apps in the meantime and the breakthrough of the Appstore, it looks like an uphill battle now.
While things don't look as good on paper, according to PC Magazine they don't look good on the road either with the G60 only getting a 2/5 mark in their review. You can use the nuvifone Phone & GPS - Garmin launch with ATT topic of the "GPS and Mobile News" section in the forums to discuss.
Updated February 4th, 2009 - Almost a year to the day after announcing the connected nuvifone for a late 2008 release and then postponing it, Garmin are relaunching it with a new partner. Unfortunately it's not a mobile carrier that would have been able to mass market this new device to their customers, but an industrial partner, Asus. While it makes sense for Garmin to enlist the help of a company experienced in designing, manufacturing and marketing GPS PDAPhones, it does sound like an admission that their initial strategy failed...
... It could also be argued that Asus failed on the GPS PDAPhone market almost entirely captured by HTC and seem to have given up on the GPS AIO market. Let's wish them luck but this project seems challenged at this point. You can use the nuvifone Phone & GPS - Garmin partner with Asus topic of the "GPS and Mobile News" section in the forums to discuss.
Updated January 31st, 2008 - Garmin have just announced the nüvifone, a device crammed with the latest mobile technology: 3G+, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Camera with geocoding, Google Local, etc...There had been rumours of a Garmin phone for a while, as well as a TomTom one, but this device is quite a surprise...... Unlike the iQue line of PDAs that failed to break new ground and that was discontinued last year, the nüvifone appears like a killer device, at least on paper. It clearly takes after the iPhone but time will tell if it can compete.
Most technical details are still unknown (GPS chip, OS, Screen type and resolution) but we should find out at the 3GSM show in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned for more on GpsPasSion. In the meantime you can use this topic of the "GPS and Mobile News" section in the forums to discuss.

Bob has treated us with a "picture review" in the forums. 3. I've just bumped into an iQue 3600 forum hosted on PDAStreet.com, lots of great feedback already! Updated 10/28 - Couple of news: 1. Seidio now have a full line of accessories for the iQue. You can find it on their site here
2. I'm completing my review of this excellent all-in-one GPS/PDA unit! Stay tuned for some special Club Offers too ;-)

Garmin have just announced the iQue 3600, "the first PDA to include integrated GPS technology".
This looks like a very interesting device and, if I may say so myself, the best thing to happen to the PalmOS platform since the PalmPro 5 years ago! Expected availability is the second quarter of 2003 and MSRP is $589. You can read Joe Mehaffey's (from gpsinformation.net) first comments HERE
