| GPS to be used for "Mileage Tax" in the US - MA investigation, Opinions ? |
Posté le 23 février 2009 à 16:06:00 par gpspassion. EN - General News Source : Gpspassion
Posted February 23rd, 2009 There's been talk recently in the US about a "Mileage Tax" that would tax users based on miles driven using GPS. While the new Administration has stated it wouldn't pursue such a tax, several States are investigating whether and how it could be applied.
This is the case in Massachusetts, where none other than our own danham, moderator of the nuvi forums, has been asked to testify and he's interested in opinions. Using GPS for such a purpose certainly raises privacy issues as well as technical issues, feel free to pitch in the GPS to be used for "road tax" ? MA Investigation topic of the "General Questions and Discussions" forums.

Updated Februray 5th, 2006 - The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will become the first law enforcement agency to outfit cars with a device that propels and sticks a Global Positioning System (GPS) onto a fleeing car, rather than engage in a high-speed chase that is dangerous for the public and police...
... The department will mount the StarChase device in the grill of some squad cars in the fall. You can use this thread of the forums to discuss....
Posted 11/13/2005 - An oddity for a Sunday - in Paul's words here : "I guess this puts the final seal of approval on GPS navigation. According to The Register: The Queen has installed satellite navigation systems in her Daimler-Jaguar as well the fleet of limos - three Rollers, two Bentleys and three Daimlers - which whisk Her Maj between palace and public function"... ...
One has to wonder though how she dealt with the reception problems assocated with the use of a coated, or worse, of a bullet-proof windshield ;-) Bluetooth GPS, external antenna, re-rad ?
