Updated March 31st, 2009
One of the best free GPS utilities, NoniGPSPlot, just got better with the addition of live map downloading in v2.80. Wherever you are in the world you can now choose from GoogleMap, YahooMap, VirtualEarth or OpenStreetMap and download tiles directly to your Windows Mobile PDA. Give it a try and join the NoniGPSPlot - v2.80 - with live maps topic where, Noni, its author, is taking questions.

Updated February 25th, 2007 - Since it first appeared in the "Beta GPS software" section of the forums in November of last year, NoniGPSPlot has progressed quite a bit, starting out with a novel "chartplotting" approach and adding new features such as map overlays. In combination with GoogleMV that creates maps of the world on the fly in the popular OziExplorer calibration format, the results are quite spectacular...

... You can discuss it with the author in this thread of the "beta" forums.

Updated November 21st, 2006 - Noni GPSPlot, one of the nicest GPS freeware applications to emerge over the years, has just been upgraded by its author to v2.50 and is now available in English. New features of note include an impressive "heading up" map display that tracks you every step.

Updated October 25th - Following suggestions made in the forums, swemartin has been kind enough to keep on updating SEWE for...... Windows Mobile PDAs and Smartphones, now at v0.6, and even added some "earth" animations......

Another new utility of interest is Noni GPSPlot that comes as close as I've seen to an actual "chart plotter" on a PDA and it also handles tracks and waypoints. Give it a try !

Updated 08/25 - Now for some GPS Tweaking tools news : GPS2Blue has now reached v1.5 with many new features such as GPS data sharing over TCP/IP; it turns out that newcomer Sewe originally developped for Windows Smartphones runs fine on PocketPCs as well and gives a lot of control on SBAS (WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS) settings; longtime PC tweaking favorite u-Center is going mobile with some nice graphics and even offers AGPS for uBlox based receivers....

...

Updated 07/02/2006 - Paludour has been working hard on GPS2Blue over the past month and it shows...

Updated 11/26/2005 - Depending on your planned use, it can be useful to tweak your SiRFstarIII based GPS receiver and while there is the powerful SiRFdemo tool for PCs (tutorial), existing PocketPC tools were somewhat lacking, that is until APLSiRF arrived and now MMSiRFsetup, more details in this thread of the technical forums....... :
- it is now compatible with WM5.0's "GPS Server" to allow for simulteanous PPC/PC use
- can log data and zip it on the fly
- can create POIs for TomTom
- can sync your PDA's clock with the ultra precise GPS time.
- has an ActiveSync installer
Give it a try and you can use this thread to discuss.

Updated 05/28/2006 - Inspired by nkapur's GPS Redirect for the HP hw6515, forum member paludour has come up with GPS2blue to use his Mio A201 GPS PDA as a Bluetooth GPS. This has also been tested to work...... on the Mio A701 and on the Qtek G100/iMate PDA-N, with full compatibility with SiRFdemo, give it a try !

Updated 11/26/2005 - Depending on your planned use, it can be useful to tweak your SiRFstarIII based GPS receiver and while there is the powerful SiRFdemo tool for PCs (tutorial), existing PocketPC tools were somewhat lacking, that is until APLSiRF arrived and now MMSiRFsetup, more details in this thread of the technical forums....

Posted 03/20 - Most of the default settings of our GPS receivers are best left untouched, but "Static Navigation" is one that should be looked at closely especially with the arrival of the new SiRFstarIII based receivers. These ultra-powerful receivers take GPS reception to a new level buy working with very weak signals...... but when such a situation arises, accuracy can be impacted. Observations over a 24 hour period show that with good signals, 95% of the positions reported by the GPS will be within a 15 meter radius, while with weak signals, 95% of the positions will be within a radius of 50 meters.

While this may seem a bit technical, it could directly impact how you use your GPS especially if you're into geocaching, this advanced GPS configuration tutorial shows you how to fix it.
