| New Mobile Platforms - Viliv S5 UMPC with Streetdeck : Future of GPS ? |
Posté le 25 mars 2009 à 22:45:00 par gpspassion. EN - Hardware Source : Gpspassion
Updated March, 25th, 2009 So far UMPCs hadn't been very compelling GPS Assisted Navigation platforms due to their size and weight, but this may change with devices like the Viliv S5 and its 4.8" touch screen.
It still has much more power than our AIOs from Garmin or TomTom thanks to its Intel Atom 1.33GHz CPU, 1Gb RAM, full WinXP interface, WSVGA resolution (1024x600), SiRFstarIII GPS chipset, not to mention Bluetooth and WiFI and the good news is that navigation software also appears to be coming into its own on WinXP with the latest version of Streedeck for instance. You can use the Viliv S5 with Streetdeck : Future of GPS ? of the "GPS and Mobile News" forums to discuss.
Updated December 14th, 2006 - Yet another GPS enabled mobile platform with the arrival of the first UMPC (ex-Origami) device with a built-in GPS receiver. While it's easy enough to add a Bluetooth GPS, most of us who've used PDAs or PDAPhones with a built-in GPS it's hard to go back to carrying a separate device. Over the past few days I put the R2H to the GPS test, running tools such as...
... SiRFdemo, mapping programs with navigation (Autoroute 2007) and pure navigation programs (Intellinav/iGuidance v3). You will find pictures and comments in the UMPC GPS - ASUS R2H - Reviewed topic in the newly renamed "Laptop and UMPC Road Navigation" section of the forums.
Updated April 22nd, 2005 - We're still keeping an eye on the future platforms for GPS assisted navigation, so thanks to impreza76 for pointing out the new Microsoft "Hybrid Tablet PC/eBook" concept as well as the return of the Toshiba Libretto 100CT in this discussion thread of the forums...
...
Posted 01/03 - The new year is off to quite an exciting start in terms of new mobile platforms. First in line is the OQO that was long feared to be "vaporware", a fully featured diminutive portable computer running WindowsXP. Site member "weiqj" put his to the GPS test with iNav and an RBT-1000 Bluetooth GPS and was impressed ! Pictures and comments in this discussion thread. Next in line is the QTEK S100 PDA Phone, aptly code named "Magician", with its cell phone size and full PockePC features. We've put a summary thread (links to reviews, forums, GPS testing) about it in this thread...

Notably with two devices particularly well adapted to GPS use, the OQO and the Qtek S100 (XDA II mini) that you can see side by side on HowardForums.com and by clicking on "comments" below.
