There's also a freeware version called MapViewGPS. It's great as well. And to clarify, you can't use raw OziCE maps AFAIK...you need to use the ogf2tool.exe to convert graphics into the MapViewGPS/SmartComGPS graphics. However, the program can directly use the Ozi text files (the .map, .plt, .trk files for calibration, waypoints, etc.) which is also extremely cool when you show it to friends :-)

Yes, but all you need to open the .ozf2 map in OziExplorer, save it as a bmp and then import it in the ogf2tool.exe tool, a snap really ;-)

Here are the difference beteen MapView and SmartCom:

"In addition to all features of freeware MapViewGPS, SmartComGPS has new great opportunities:

- Support of ozi explorer routes .rte
- Routes editor
- Track editor
- Automatic voice and visual instructions in follow mode
- Send SMS with position from map, automatic SMS sending by reqest or by timeout
- Receiving and showing SMS'es on the map
- Satellites screen
- Fast zoom out till 0,5%
- Playing sound on GPS events
- Index map mode
- Map border editor
- Flip closed mode in Sony Ericsson p800/900/910
- Toolbar
- Quick select follow mode window"

They REALLY need their own thread ;-)

Hello Don and GPSPASSION,

I am sorry if this question has been answered. Recentnly I just bought P910i. I am living in US. According to your message posted above, we can buy then UK TomTom Mobile 5 and upload to the US map. Does this work for P910i? Again, where can we find the US maps that can be used by TomTom Mobile 5 software. Thank you very much for your help.

BRs,
Joe

Yes, the P910i is in the compatibility list:
http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=69&Language=1&TT=7t8glarm32mm6smjnmobjkn536

Buy the UK version, then buy the US maps from TomTom. Copy the maps over to the memory card into similar directory names as you see for the UK maps. It's kinda stupid, but you have to put them at the root of the memory card, so if you loads lots of maps, it gets pretty cluttered :-P

Ok, but
1. Don't quote unless you need to, i.e. a message above your reply
2. Please post MapView questions over there !

FYI, MapViewGPS is an entirely different solution than TomTom. One is something called a "moving map" (really a graphics bitmap) so it's like showing you a map and exactly where you are on it...i.e., you route yourself by knowing where you area. To make MapViewGPS really useful, you need to buy OziExplorer. MapViewGPS is used by hikers and for geocaching.

TomTom is a street level guidance program...i.e., you tell it where you want to go and it tells you how to get there. This is used by automobile drivers.

Hi everyone.
I am using a software call GPSXC. The website is http://www.gpsxc.com/
This software is really good for offroad traking. One of the top features is that you can import maps and images or also download them on the fly usin GPRS (I think only UK & USA). It has waypoints, track looging, Ozi compatibility, routes, etc.
Have a look at the web, it's a very good software. I did a lot of research before buy it and I am quite happy now.

I also use tom tom 5, and I have to said that is superbbb. Very good indeed. All that you can seek for this kind of software and much more. You can use POIs done by other people ( I love one call "street markets" that cover the London area) and the tom tom ones.

I've just arrived to try Phone2Gearth, it converts GPS data directly to Google Earth® KML files.
Phone2Gearth is an easy Nokia Series 60 GPS aplication that allows to log tracks which are directly saved as Google Earth KML files. Awesome
