Robin, since the new version has not yet been released, my guess is that it may come out early in the new year, perhaps in February. That's just based on the previous release dates in the past few years (they have been listed here.

Update: Microsoft will not release version 2012. We will have to wait for Streets & Trips 2013 (some info here).

Amazon.com reports the release date of ST 2013 as July 2, 2012.
