Hi all, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post this here - couldn't see any other forum more suited.
Basically, I'm looking for a GPS for off-road bike touring, with the most important features being following routes ("courses"?) that I've defined, recording traces to share with the world, and displaying maps from a variety of sources (not just Map$ource).
The Vista HCX seems like an obvious choice, but: 1) It's really old. Is there anything newer? 2) It seems to have some limitations. Only 50 waypoints per route? I want to create/download really finegrained routes (not following actual streets, just straight lines from point to point) that would consist of hundreds, maybe thousands of points. 3) Are there any non-Garmin alternatives? I'm not coming across much? 4) A more generic, touch-screen device might be fun...if it's rugged enough and has long enough battery life. I want to be able to record a 3 day trace.
Any suggestions? Even the names of candidates to research would be a great help. Apologies again if this is not the right place to post.
