Here's my situation. My vehicle had been customized way back in 2000 with 6.5 screen in the console, apline nve 852 dvd rom gps under the passenger seat. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-bY5KiWkVnnd/p_500NVEN852/Alpine-NVE-N852A.html If you aren't familiar with this setup, basically the unit outputs the gps video to a monitor, kinda like a dvd player and a tv.
Latest disc is 2005 and that's getting pretty old, besides the system has been a bit shady lately.
Alpine has a newer remote mount unit, but cost is ridiculous, certainly not worth $1200.
Is there anything else out there at a reasonable price? What is the technical name for systems similar? not sure exactly what to search for.
I don't like clutter and in this particular vehicle i don't want a regular gps to get plunged to the window or dash.
So far the only option i see is getting a head unit with it built in, but that leaves me removing a head unit i like, that is connected to a pretty elaborate stereo setup (non powered head unit).
