Canadadc... the unit does seem to be easily blocked so your best bet is to play with the GPS settings while you have it outside.
We were playing with ours in the house last night with no changes working... or so we thought until we finally to it back out the the vehicle, turned it on and bingo our origin was where it should be instead of putting us in the middle of California!

Hs anyone tried the MP3 player built into these things? I am very dissapointed in the sound quality, it is very light on the base end, and i am not using the built in speakers, i am running into my Grand Caravans factory sound system . Is it just my unit or do they all sound like this?

Hi Everyone,

The gps is working find for me and I am very pleased with the product considering the price I paid.

No signal Issue: Play with the gps setting, the gps must be out side. Be patient. I takes about from 4 to 10 minutes after the start up to get the signal. Plus sometimes it loses the signal for a short period, exemple under a bridge.

touch screen issue. Sometimes you are not able to touch the accept botton just after you turn on the system. You have to press the physic OK button.

This situation appoint you to calibrate the touch screen, so press the S button and press calibrate, some times you have to press around the calibrate button. (reason why you need to calibrate)

MP3: simple plug your gps to your pc, then the hardrive will popup in your screen. The Hard drive has 2 partitions, Odessey and back up. I suggest to use the back up partition.
create a folder and drop your song in it.
unplug the gps from your pc, restart your gps. press the M button. then open your songs from the directory and select the songs. You can use the touch screen and the selector with the OK button.

PICTURES: same then the mp3, supports jpegs

MOVIES: same then the mp3. The player support few formats as avi and others.

ISSUE WITH MOVIES AND PICTURES. As the player is configurated to play the music and then come back to the navigation screen. We are not able to look the movies or slideshow for more then 10 sec.

ANY ONE HAS A SOLUTION TO THIS.

any patch.

Hope this information is helpfull.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009

CHEERS

I got one at $139.99 in Mississauga Factorydirect on Dec. 28th. Following is my 2 cents:

1. My Navi Navi 3507 had virus or mal-ware: Ravon.exe & mnbugun.exe, and others. I spent 3 hours to fix my infected pc after I tried to open the hard drive.

2. 40 G hard disc is divided by 2 drivers: 9G Odyssey and 28 G. backup. I could access the ‘backup’ before removing hidden file AutoRun.inf.

3. This one uses Embedded Windows CE and InfGation Odyssey 5 (actually only version 4 shown on InfGation website, but it is similar.)

4. Most of the time I can’t boot up in the car at beginning, it shows a small window: title is ‘myshell.exe’, ‘ok’ button works ‘X’ close button not active. Contents: ‘/Hard Disk/Odyssey Nav/main.exe’
After click ‘ok’ it stuck in the welcome screen.
I keep trying sometimes it booted up at end of my 1 hour trip. I think the problem may cause by: 1. temperature is too cold for the unit or hard disk problem so it can’t find the ‘/Hard Disk/Odyssey Nav/main.exe’?

5. When it works, sometimes it lost signal and stuck behind.

6. Due to the Factorydirect non-refund policy, what model else I can choose to exchange?

Hi All,

the GPS is working now. I just change to auto detect and it works in ourside.
the MP3 player can not play AVI movies.
So next step is to add more applications on it.

Greetings to All,

Well I wondered when others would get around to hacking this thing... A buddy bought one knowing I could hack another brand running Windows CE 4.2. I now have my own and we are looking at Windows CE 5.0 on this device... So if you dare because you could end up bricking your device copy "Explorer.exe" to OdysseyNav directory... Rename "Main.exe" to say "OdysseyNav.exe"... Then rename "Explorer.exe" to "main.exe"... When the device reboots without connection to the computer... You should have "My Shell" come up instead of "Odyssey" software.

Now I don't want to repeat this: Backup all Software and if you do not know how to fix the device do not attempt this yet!

I do not want to be responsible for anyone's errors and mistakes in judgement... So you are warned! You will be voiding your Waranty!

So it is hackable... But how far is anyone's guess... Is it worth it? That remains to be seen.

There are two hidden files in the root directory "autorun.inf" and another visual basic file I think... They are what is thought to be a virus by some virus checkers... They are probably the key to the whole harddrive senario.

I'll let you know what I find.

Take care,

Jeep_YJ

Nice job, Jeep_YJ.

The device will worth it's value if is able to play video files and slideshows plus if able to install acn8 or other gps maps, well then the device will be a big boy.

cheers

Hi Micro_doc,

It is a 12 volt unit requiring power... There is no battery for powering the unit.

I will have a better hack for it soon... Just working out some ideas for the start of boot to the Windows desktop.

Oh... Be carefull of three files in root "autorun" etc... Right click on Odyssey drive. Do not open it. Use explore to see what is in the drive first... Even if it is to just copy MP3's to it. One has to be carefull not to delete any files needed for original opperation.

Take care,

Jeep_YJ

Hi Andre,

Thanks... Lots to do yet... Not certain what you mean by "acn8"... It does work for sure with OziExplorer. Windows Media Ver 9 for WinCE 5 does work from the desktop... The trick is seeing what works for a start and boot... Keeping original functionality.

Take care,

Hi I have a navi navi 3507 also.
Thanks for posting stuff about this GPS here.
Reading your posting has helped me out.
I can't believe there is no instruction booket or website on this GPS.
Come on Navteq On Board.
The GPS signaling is questionable.
It got me lost one day.
I have learned to put it on demo first. So I know where to go while it warms up.
Sometimes at takes over a half of a hour. By then I am at the location I need to be at.
I may do a hack in order to increase signal strenght.
I want to put other voices on this GPS also.
I removed Korean Voice, I think I will have no need for this one.
You got to put all the voice turns onto a wav. file.
I am working on that, I will let you know if I can pull it off.
I would love to have Mr. T tell me "Turn Right Fool".
Please keep posting. Love the big screen, audio sound does suck.
I just can't crank it up.
I will try to wire it thru the radio.
Thanks for any help
Later

Navteq On Board is not responsible for the instruction booklet or website. Navteq only makes the map, not the unit, not even the navigation software. You are barking up the wrong tree here.

Not sure what you meant by "GPS signaling", and how is it "questionable". GPS signals come from the sky above us, from the constellation of satellites. The signals are used by both civilians and military and hardly should be considered "questionable".

There is no known hack to increase signal strength. You could try to place it near the windshield, or use a re-radiating antenna kit (but it is not guarantee).

The unit does not require a subscription fee (to respond to a poster on page 1), and as a matter of fact, majority of the devices discussed on this forum do not require any subscription fee for basic navigation (traffic info etc, is diff).

If there is no instruction booklet you should ask the seller or Navi Navi, which I think has a website (although weak).

Today my 3507 did something I have not seen it do...on asking it to display the POI screen, it showed an amber window/text box that said the database was out of date, and to visit the www.odesseynav.com website for an update. I just did that and there is nothing on the site about downloading any updates, the site is for the software running on other devices, no mention of the navi navi or any other auto type GPS unit. Has any one figured out how to get more up to date maps? The ones supplied or woefully out of date.
