I have a 3790t, I bought it in Canada, is my trafic receiver going to work if I bring it in the USA or Europe?

Yes but our friend is probably using a US 1490LMT ;-)

The last time I toyed with a 3790 in an Italian shop, it had free lifetime subscriptions for TMC services all over Europe...

Good news, actually Germany is the only country that I know of with a decent free public TMC broadcast so anyone can tune in without a licence. A few years ago a "premium" service was launched but I hear it didn't offer significantly better data.

I was traveling to Germany in May and to my surprise my 1490LMT traffic receiver picked up the traffic data with no problems and nothing I needed to configure....

Since this week, there is also free Premium TMC available in Bulgaria and South Africa.

Bulgaria: see https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268&pID=100647

South Africa: see https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268&pID=100618

Discoboy, check in the Traffic section of the preferences which subscriptions are present.

A few weeks ago I was toying with a 3760T in a mall, here in Italy, and it had lifetime subscription for every possible European nation I could think of...

Unfortunately, quality of free TMC in Italy is very poor (as fas as I know from Dutch users). However, Italian Premium TMC should be working fine.

I have a 3790T bought in Canada with North America maps. I recently bought CN Europe maps. I am travelling to Italy in January, 2011. Will the 3790T display "free" traffic info in Italy with my current hardware and maps? And if so, is the "free" service in Italy any good?

Thanks for the update. Recent software updates (1490 I think) have mentioned the GTM-26 and GTM-36 receiver, I don't believe any has been sighted yet though.

Now, there is also free Premium TMC for Ireland available.
See https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268&pID=90122 .

For some time now, Garmin sells TMC-receivers with a lifetime TMC Premium for ALL EUROPEAN countries listed here (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268) PLUS some extra countries: Luxemburg, Poland, Hungary and Slovenia. A single subscription for these countries is (still?) not available.

Available receivers:
* GTM 21 (SKU 010-00566-18)
* GTM 25 (SKU 010-00722-18)
* GTM 35 (SKU 010-00896-18)

Price: from about € 70 / $ 95.

Research already done here : [TOPIC] Garmin Traffic : Clear Channel vs Navteq, CC is $10 more expensive at $60 for some reason https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=268

Thanks, Bob. I will research.
ST-Bob Posted - 07 août 2010 : 16:51:39
Purchased only I believe. Pick your service provider as they cover the same areas but there aren't as many Navteq carriers as Total Traffic Network (Clear Channel) stations.

And can I ask a reverse question. I live in the UK and have a 1490T. Will I be able to receive traffic info. in the USA - free? or purchased?
