DESCRIPTION
This unlock kit is intended for use on Crossover GPS (2500-T) devices. XOverCE provides access to the underlying WinCE core operating system of these GPS devices. At this time it has been only tested on NA devices. All included software is freeware/demo. The unlock provides several GPS utilities for testing and configuring the GPSr. Also includes image viewers, media players, office programs and many other system utilities, including a working soft keyboard. No games are inlcuded.
A huge debt of gratitude is extended to the authors of MioPocket (http://www.gpspassion.com/FORUMSEN/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=126303), most notably Osprey and TroNik. Their work has provided the framework for much of the functionality and features of this unlock.
To run the Magellan shell (tnShell) and thereby the Navigator and Outdoor/Marine apps, use the "Magellan Shell" shortcut on the desktop. Alternately, remove the SD card and reset the device to automatically load the Magellan shell and prevent XOverCE from loading.
This unlock kit may also work on other Magellan devices (especially MRM 2000 devices), but at present this is untested.
INSTALLATION
Extract the contents of ZIP archive and copy it to a SD card (minimum 128MB). Make sure that DM.exe, micManager.exe, micManager.mscr, and Mortscript.exe are in the root directory of the card. Put SD card in device and soft reset the device. After rebooting you will be prompted to install the unlock or load the default Magellan shell. If you choose to install, please be patient, do not use the device while the installer runs and allow the unit to reset itself.
CUSTOMIZATION
Add custom registry files to be imported during XOverCE install to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Registry\Custom" folder.
Add additional programs to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Programs" folder and place shortcuts in "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows" subfolders.
Add additional needed DLL files to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\System" folder.
The unlock contains scripts to adjust the brightness, power management timeouts and time zone. These are found @ "Start Menu | Programs | Settings".
To use a different desktop wallpaper copy your wallpaper.bmp file to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows\Wallpaper".
Copy additional font files (*.ttf) to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows\Fonts".
Copy desktop shortcuts to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows\Desktop".
Copy start menu shortcuts to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows\Programs".
To have certain programs run when the device starts, copy shortcuts to "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows\Startup".
KNOWN ISSUES
Following the initial install and subsequent soft resets, the WinCE clock may not be synchronized properly if the GPSr can't get a valid signal. Goto "Start Menu | Programs | Utilities | GPSTimeSync" to attempt to sync the clock again.
Many of the WinCE control applets (*.cpl) don't proprerly work on the Crossover GPS. Therefore they are not included in this unlock.
The power button does not work to turn off the unit without the Magellan shell running. However, the suspend button will now work to turn off the unit and then use the power button to turn the unit back on.

Hi great unlock.
Has anyone been successful in replacing the usb.exe so that windows can see it as a mass storage device, or is this not possible. |

@ JALinker - did you ever get your device running past the problem you post about before? If so, what did you do to get it running? What happened now to cause the new problem?
I have never seen or heard of this error, so I will probably be of little help to you. |

I see. But hold button is very useful using device outdoors. Because it will switch off screen (saves battery time) and disables touchscreen input (no worries throwing device in pocket or bag). Is it hard to catch that button event or nobody is using that hold button?
With Magellan shell I have a problem. It is activating navigator application time after time. Therefore it's impossible to run any other app from shell. I guess it is because shell can not locate Magellan maps, but how to trick it? But that's question for other thread...
P.S. Actually power button works as expected - short click = suspend, long click = shutdown. Sorry mistake. Power button is not doing anything, hold button pressed twice is suspending device. |

It is a known issue that the suspend (hold) button and the power button will not function properly without the Magellan shell running. I recommend using one of the included applications to suspend or turn off the device when running in WinCE mode. |

Great work - XOverCE is super!
But Hold button is not working. This is button which have to switch off/on screen. First click is not doing anything. Second click is suspending device.
In original Magellan shell button works correctly.
My device is CrossoverGPS EU. |

How did you create the shortcut file? You can create shortcuts directly on your GPS by using pWord. Be sure to save as a 'plain text file', then rename the file so that it has a ".lnk: file extension instead of ".txt". If you post the contents of your iGo shortcut file I can look at it for you. It should look something like:

Congratulations. It is a wonderful program.
I installed the xover on my roadmate 2500, and helped a lot with IGO8, specially in Brazil. But I can not establish a shortcut. I have place the shortcut IGO.exe on in "\SDMMC Card\XOverCE\Windows" subfolders, and still do not open. It comes with a message "make sure the path and filename are correct". Can anyone help me in this matter? tks. |

@ gwpc - Thanks for the directions for running XOVerCE on a Magellan Maestro 3100!
@ BubbaJones - a hard reset will restore the device to near factory unless you have totallly buggered it by formatting the flash or deleting maps or something similar. I would make sure that the SD card with XOVerCE on was not in the device when performing the hard reset just to be sure. After the hard reset you can put the SD card in the device and perform a soft reset to (re)install the unlock.

XOverCE Recovery?
First of all, I have backed-up every folder on the 2200T (running v2.36).
Assuming something disastrous happens and I need to get it back to factory settings, what will a hard reset accomplish, and will it be enough to re-install XOverCE (and FileManCE) and copy all the folder contents back?
I read that a hard reset re-copies the /WINDOWS folder and the registries. (which perhaps is enough to start XOverCE?)
