Hi,

I just bought a VGPS-900 unit and it was delivered remarkably quickly. Thanks for that!

The problem I'm having is that id does not fix its location. It gets GPS fix for 2-3 seconds but then goes back to sync mode for 30sec-2 minutes, fixes for 2-3 seconds and then again back to sync ...

Apart from that it seems to be fine, it beeps, creates CSV files on flash card (with 2-3 seconds of data), BT is working fine.

I tried it on pretty open space - no tall buildings or mountains, where my other GPS receiver doesn't have any problems.

Is there anything I can do with it or it is a RMA case?

Thanks in advance!

i got mine fixed/replaced. unfortunately i don't know which and don't have any way to tell. I guess you should ask semsons. you could try the manufacturer but i had little communication from them, they just sent me something that worked with no explanation.

Hi,

Sorry to keep labouring the point, but I would greatly appreciate just a little confirmation.

I have just received my Visiontac GPS-900 from Semsons (having ordered on Thursday last week, thanks for the super-quick delivery!!!), and wanted to know if I will definitely have received the version that works in the Southern Hemisphere. I am in the UK so I can't test it before I go there in a few months time to check.

I know the title says [fixed], but the users appeared to get their devices fixed by sending them back to Visiontac/Columbus directly.

No-one answered the question of "Is it possible to check whether you have the firmware that works in the southern hemisphere" without testing it in the Southern Hemisphere? I assume that Semsons will only stock the fixed version with it being over a year since the issue was fixed, but if someone could confirm it for me I would be a happier chap.

Thanks!

oops,

I'll take it that customer service was okay?

And the VGPS-900 would be on a recommended list.

Thanks

Look at the title !

And was this issue corrected, not that I am planning a trip there anytime soon but would like to know that the 900 is 100%.

It only ever had problems in the Southern Hemisphere ;-) Here is its topic -> http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?topic_id=118881

Hi, all

I had been searching for a logger to tag my pictures and found a link to Visiontac VGSP-900. It looked like it would do perfect for what I needed. Then I came across this site and was sad to find that there was problems with it.

Since the last post on April 09, I was wondering if all was good and customer service was satisfactory.

I am hoping to get a logger within a couple of weeks.

Thanks for any updates if possible.

carlwithaK, this is good news indeed.

It would be nice if the manufacturer said what the cause of the earlier failure was.... since if I were to purchase from an online store , there's no way of knowing if the unit will work in Southern hemisphere. I guess not until when I visit Auckland later this year and try it out.

So... after sending this away and not hearing anything, a bit over a week later a VGPS-900. It looks like a brand new unit from the complete absence of finger prints on it. There was also a new memory card in there so I fired it up straight away, and have used it a few times - both walking around town and for a drive of about 25kms. From what I can tell everything seems to be working as it should which is good news.

Its been a few months now since I last had one of these working, but it seems as though the green GPS light flashes a lot faster, and when it gets the first lock after turning it on it beeps which I don't remember it doing.

Thanks for the update, too bad they couldn't send you a file so you could update the firmware directly.
carlwithaK Posted - 16 juil. 2009 : 13:45:59
It's been a while, but it seems Visiontac eventually went back to their engineers with my description (thanks to the others here with the same issue too) and they think they have found an issue in the firmware. So today I battled through far too many documents for FedEx and sent the unit on its way back to China.

I'll keep you informed of any progress.
gpspassion Posted - 27 mai 2009 : 15:57:38
Nope, the miniUSB plug on the V900 can only be used to recharge the battery, data transfers (the .csv files can then be dragged/dropped in BT747) and configuation happen with the microSD card, check out its topic for more details.
carlwithaK Posted - 27 mai 2009 : 12:08:08
I managed to get BT747 to connect (I think) to the Visiontac at work, but couldn't see anyway to get a version out of it.

As far as actually getting a working unit, Visiontac are meant to replace the unit directly for me. They want me to send $15 with it to cover I guess their shipping of a new unit to me, which I'm not keen on as it seems very unlikely any other unit is going to work any better.
maciekwolf Posted - 21 mai 2009 : 20:59:29
Definitely. Of course 747a+ doesn't have micro sd card logging and voice memos but when it comes to sheer tracking performance I am very impressed. Have a good look around this forum (if you haven't done so already) and you'll notice that 747 is often used as a benchmark for comparing performance of new models.

Please let everyone know if you somehow manage to get your Visiontac working though.
carlwithaK Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 12:46:21
There is no sign of a INFO.TXT file on my memory card, and I haven't figured out how to get BT747 to connect to the unit. I'll try that at work tomorrow because I've never had much luck with the bluetooth at home.

If I can't get anything going, do you recommend the 747a+ as a similar device?
